Self Harm Scars

Emily used to hide her self harm scars.

Our Scars

In this series I was asked to find women happy to talk about their scars. They all touch on their physical and emotional pain, as well as having to deal with other people’s reactions on a day-to-day basis.

They’re learning to come to terms with the skin they live in.

Emily talks about her self harm scars.

‘The reason why I self-harmed the first time is because I did something really bad.’

Jayne contracted a flesh eating bug.

‘My legs looked like I'd come straight from The Walking Dead.’

Aimee has guttate psoriasis.

‘I couldn't cope with that initial feeling in the morning of remembering how I looked.’

Laura is a burns survivor.

‘When I was one, a non-member of my birth family put me in a bath of scalding water.’
